Diagonal Birthday

I've been reviewing my list of challenges I hope to do some day, and combined two of them to make this:

The most difficult part of this card for me was getting the strip of diagonal card stock cut long enough. In the process I also trimmed the card down so it's less than 4.25" wide, but who knows at what point I stopped trimming. It's like cutting your bangs - just put down the scissors.  The rest of the card was simply gluing pretty paper to the black card base. I dug out my CAS-ual Fridays "Shenanigans" set for the bold birthday greeting.

OCC: Stenciled I. Can't. Stop.

I needed a quick generic card this morning, and I ... used a stencil. I know, I know, but there was one more technique I'd wanted to try, and the stencil was still out, and ... I made this:

I wanted to use Hero Arts' new Vanilla ink as one of the two colors, but it's only ordered and not yet arrived, so I used Soft Sand instead. Ya know, I kinda like it. :)

At first I hesitated using black for the stamped dots, but now I think I really like the stark contrast. I even played it up by adding a black layer and die-cut sentiment.

The sentiment actually disappeared into the busy background, so I cut a strip of white card stock to help break it up. I made it shorter than the taller letters on purpose since I thought a wider strip would be too much. It's popped up on foam adhesive, and I'm really happy with it!

Now I need to send this off with the package. Hopefully I'll put away these stencils now and do something else. Maybe. :)

OCC: Stenciled - Okay, One More

I made one more card for my Stenciled Online Card Classes homework:

This time I sponged ink through a stencil, and I both offset it and flipped it over. The colors are Pale Tomato and Butter Bar. I was hoping to get Orange in the middle, and I did, partly because I didn't bother to clean the stencil between colors. I also on purpose made the colors lighter as I worked my way to the bottom of the card.

See how the orange triangles aren't perfectly aligned? I totally meant to do that! I kinda like the flecks of white showing.

The sentiment is stamped in Memento Luxe Tuxedo Black ink and clear embossed. I trimmed off the right edge of the top layer so I could add a strip of black washi tape to cut all the color and to coordinate with the black sentiment. I thought there were too many sharp corners, so I used my 1/8" Corner Chomper on the edges of the sentiment, top layer and card base.

I liked this class a lot. I think you'll see some of the techniques incorporated in future cards here. :)

OCC: Stenciled - More Playing

I was trying something based on another lesson from our Stenciled Online Card Class, and I made this:

That's an embossed stencil that I also inked (only the raised portions are inked). It's kinda cool. Please don't let me buy more stencils just to do this technique.

If you haven't yet taken the class, you totally should! It's interactive until Feb 3rd, after which you can still take it, just without uploading to the gallery or commenting in the forums. I love the lifetime access for these classes - I almost always go back and re-watch a video or two. :)
