SOS #178: Thankful

It's Tuesday, and time for a new challenge over at Shopping Our Stash. This week our theme is Thankful. With the US Thanksgiving right around the corner, and we'd like you to make a project with a Thank You or grateful spin, or you can use a Thanksgiving theme.

I went with Thanksgiving. Well, I used a turkey. A turkey, I might add, that has been missing for weeks. WEEKS! I have been going through bags and boxes and drawers and ... I almost gave up. Seems I took the little guy to one of my recent crafty weekends and he was lost in one of the still-unpacked bags of "stuff to use this weekend" that never made it to being used. That is also the excuse I'm using as to why that bag is still not unpacked.

Here's my card, then I'll explain:

Isn't' he cute? Now do you see why I've been tearing this place apart looking for the little guy? If he looks familiar, it may be because he's from the Kim Hughes Cornish Heritage Farms line of stamps. Yes, he's that old.

To make him, I stamped him with Memento ink and colored him with Copics. For colors, I looked up "what color is a turkey" and chose this image:

I like that this one is a wild turkey. I've seen some while vacationing in South Dakota, and those guys are BIG. Anyway, my image has way fewer feathers than this photo, but I did my best.

Also, my stamp image has a "heh heh" kind of look to him, so I couldn't bear to use my "gobble 'til you wobble" sentiment, that may or may not also be MIA, so I chose to make him a protester. I used an MFT banner die to make the flag, and my Lawn Fawn Harold's ABCs stamps to stamp the words.

His handsome banner holder is a toothpick that I attached with Glossy Accents. There is also foam tape behind the flag.

I'm pretty excited about that paper I used, too, since I actually had to open it to use it. Who knew I had a whole pack of wood grain paper in my stash? I actually used two pieces of it (whoot) because I stamped two of the turkeys -- one in black and one in brown -- to see which I liked better. Here's the black one:

It's a subtle difference, for sure. Here they are side-by-each:

The great thing about this hobby is not having to decide! I just made both!

So, got some Thanksgiving-themed stamps, or just need to make a Thank You card? Why not play along with us at SOS this week?

Thanks for stopping by!

Stuff I used: Cornish Heritage Farms Kim Hughes Cartoon Turkey, David Tutera cream cards, and the following:

  3. omg, he is verrrrrrrrrrrrry cute! i almost feel guilty about the copious amounts of turkey i plan to eat next week. ...almost... (sorry, tom turkey, but my husband is a REALLY good cook!!!) :)

ps: isn't it amazing how much difference a TINY detail-- like stamping in black or dark brown-- makes?! i am endlessly fascinated by such things.

  4. He looks a little skinny compared to that big guy (real turkey) but still just as cute as can be! Love the banner and sentiment!

  5. I like both versions, and the subtle differences in the two cards. I'm thankful for the Google, since I do the same thing very often when attempting to color an animal image, you know, realistically. ;)
