SOS #175: Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'

It's Tuesday, and time for a new challenge at Shopping Our Stash. This week's theme is Rollin', Rollin', Rollin', and we'd like you to use something ROUND. You could use round images (NOT just a round die-cut), or make a circle card, or use a brayer (it's long and round), etc. -- OR -- use a Western theme, since I got this idea from the theme song of Rawhide:

I apologize if some of you young things don't remember this TV show (and yes, it was broadcast in black & white), but some of us do remember it. And it's a good ear worm.

I took the "use something round" approach to the challenge and made this:

I used the old marble rolling technique, but I do mine a little differently. I use a clear plastic box that locks closed, like an old SU clam shell box. I put a couple of spots of adhesive on the back of my card stock and stick it to the lid of the box. Then I add a few drops of reinker into the bottom of the box, drop in a few marbles, and close the lid. I roll the marbles around until they have picked up some of the ink, then flip the box over and roll the inked marbles over the card stock. You can flip it back over to pick up more ink and repeat until you like the look of the paper.

If you have more than one box, this is easier, but mine all left in The Moving Purge, so I only have one. I removed the marbles with a wet wipe and cleaned them up, then used another wipe to clean out the bottom of the box. Next I added a second color of ink and repeated. In all I used 3 colors of ink.

Then I remembered one SU workshop I did where we used gold metallic reinker with the marbles after we were all done with the colors, then heat-embossed the gold ink so it was shiny. I did a less-involved version of that and used Distress Tarnished Brass stain instead. I shook the bottle up good, squished some onto the bottom of the box, tossed in the marbles, and did the same thing I did with the reinkers. It does add a bit of shine:

Okay, it's not exactly shiny here, but you can see the brass blots. You can see one really well at the top of the stamped A, where the black ink messed with the brass stain. ;/ You can also clearly see the trails of some of the marbles as they traveled over the card stock. I think that's pretty cool.

So that's my interpretation of Rollin'. Looking at this now, I'll bet if you substitute green for the blue you could make cool Christmas cards. :) The fun thing is you never get two exactly the same. :)

So, wanna play along? Why not head over to Shopping Our Stash to see how my teammates have interpreted the challenge and leave them some comment love?

Thanks for stopping by!

Stuff I used: SU clear plastic clam shell box, marbles, and the following:
