I Pick You

I don't usually go for "cute" stamp sets (well, except for some Paper Smooches critters), and I don't usually buy sets that are for a specific season, as I rarely make seasonal cards. However, when I saw the cute mouse set at My Favorite Things, I caved and bought it.  There are several images in the set that can be used for non-Autumn-themed cards, and even though it broke my 50% rule, I was weak.

Here is my card, then I'll explain:

I just love this mouse.

The background is my nod to "ombre", which is the current Retro Rubber challenge:

and the colors are based on the current The Challenge from Always Playing With Paper:

For the background, I masked the edges of a piece of water color paper. Then I smooshed three Distress inks onto my craft mat, spritzed them with water, and used a dry brush to paint them on.

I stamped the mouse, then realized the MFT dies are solid, so that meant I needed to cut first, then stamp. I did try to cut the one I'd already stamped, but I missed it by thiiiiiis much. :( So I cut two, assuming I'd mis-stamp the first one. Surprise! I got it the first try, so whoot! :)

I colored him with Copics, stuck him to the card front, and added the sentiment. I love that font. For my last act, I added some clear Wink of Stella to the apple.

Oh, rats. For the color challenge, "no other colors are allowed" except neutrals, so I won't be linking up over there. Boo.

You'll undoubtedly see this mouse again. I have plans for him. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Stuff I used: Copics (0, C0, C1, C3, R20, R27, RV29, B01, BG02), and the following:

  9. He's a cutie. Your ombre background is way cool--cooler than many I've seen since you go from blue to green (or maybe you went green to blue, but you know). I hate those solid dies so much more hassle. Might as well fussy cut.

  10. Ouhhhh!Ouhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! I could not withstand this cute mouse either! It is sooooo cute! I love that you left the card rather plain, so that the mouse and the ombre background are real eye catcher. Sooooo nice! Thank you for including Retro Rubber in your Art. 12. You seem to do cute remarkably well! That little mouse is adorable, and the watercoloured background is perfect. Ugh to solid dies. Not that I'm particularly successful with the other ones, either...
