Cool Yule - Jingle Belles, Week 11
I am sooooooooo excited to be the guest hostess over at Jingle Belles Rock this week! It's Week 11 for the Belles, and today is March 11th. How cool is that?!
I told Lauren I wanted to do something "different", and believe it or not, she wasn't too surprised. ;/ I am a rebel, and I like to mix it up. Ever tried to make a Valentine's card with no pink or red? How about Christmas with no red or green? Hmmm? So I opted to do a color challenge that would give us all non-traditional colors to make this week's card.
I had some ideas in mind, but then I saw this photo from The Lettered Cottage, and I knew I'd found it:
Tan (Kraft), White, and a spot of Pale Blue. Those are really "cool" colors, thus my ever-so-clever title for this week's challenge.
And here is my card*:
I started by cutting some pretty paper with this Tim Holtz die that, not-too-coincidentally, Lauren enabled me to buy. The pattern is so busy, I wanted a plain, yet not too plain background, so I used a piece of paper from my SU stash. This piece of paper actually has a row of birds across the top, but I just wanted the lines so I cut off all the birds**. (I see a bird card in my future ...)
The "snow" is made from three or four pieces of patterned vellum (the scrap fell out of the vellum pile when I was looking for something else). I cut it wavy, and once the layers were stuck down, I edged them with glue and glitter. I added some baker's twine to hide some of my grievous adhesive choice. (Vellum and I still have a few issues to work out.) The "peace" is from an old SU set, and the snowflakes are from ancient stash, and I used that many to fill up the empty sky.
See? It's seasonal, "cool", winter-y, and yet still Christmas-y.
So come on over to Jingle Belles and play along! I've played since Week 1, and it's been a blast. I already have a TON of Christmas cards made, and it's only March! Plus the ladies are all fab-u-lous. Please join us! C'mon, you know you want to. :)
Thanks for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteYour card is amazing...definitely one of my all-time fave Leslie cards. Now I think I need that Tim deer...
I just read your post, and I was originally going to try to use my jumbo bird and a branch SU punch, then went in another direction. I may see if that bird tickles my brain for another card.
