HYCCT - Butterflies

Today's HYCCT challenge at Splitcoast is Butterflies of Hope, where we were asked to make a card using something/anything butterfly. This woke up some grey matter in my brain, and reminded me how I've always wanted to try this:

I have two MS punches: one with a large flutterby and one with two sizes of smaller ones. I was going to make a rainbow of them, from large to small, bottom left to upper right, so they looked like they were flying off into the sunset.

When I picked up a piece of Berry Blossoms DSP paper from the Heaplet, I changed my mind and went for shades of red/orange/yellow. I also started at the top with yellow, then went darker and back to light again. Just because.

I had the card open, and the flutterbies* continued to the back of the card. Lookie:

I just went with it so I didn't have to trim them. I only had to trim the one on the bottom left of the front, and yes, it pained me to do so.

I really like how this turned out! And no sentiment. I didn't want to mess with the flow of the flutterbies, such as it is.

In other news, I went to the camera shop today to talk about my inability to take a decent photo. You KNOW it's the camera's fault, right?! She proceeded to show me how to adjust the light settings for Daylight vs Tungsten to try to cut down on the yellow. As for glare, she told me to keep moving my lights around, and wished me luck. :) She also told me the tripod attacher parts are a universal size, and always have been, no matter what camera you have. So that old old old tripod I got from my Dad will work with my camera. YAY!

However, look what they had at the counter:

A key-chain-size functional tripod! HAHAHA! MINE! Isn't it the cutest?! Yeah, I know, like I'll need a table-top tripod to take pics while I'm on the road somewhere. But you never know, right?

Okay, I'm off to post this card over at Splitcoast, and maybe make one for another challenge tonight.

Thanks for stopping by!

*I had quite the animated discussion about the plural of flutterby on Twitter. Should it be "flutterbies" like "butterflies"? Or maybe "flutterbys"? Someone tried to confuse me more by suggesting "flutterbyes", but in the end, I went with what seemed to most grammatically correct. Please note that NO ONE suggested "flutterby" was not a real word.

  1. That's a lot of butterflies/flutterbys...and it is beautiful! Love that tiny tripod, too. I'm sure it will come in handy one day.

  3. This is definitely one of those lol cards (labor of love that only will go to a person that understands the hard work and aching hands that went into creating the card...you know...THAT kind of labor). I like the mix of patterns and colors on your butterflies. And that mini tripod comes in handy. A couple of years ago each of my family members received one in their Christmas stocking and the tripods are in constant use. Of course between having 9 grandkids and trying to keep 9 grandkids away from interesting crafting 'stuff', there are always a lot of photo opps.

I'd love to hear what you really think! :-)
