Another Hero Arts Sketch

I wanted to try the third Hero Arts October sketch:

(this time the one on the bottom right)

Here's my card, then I'll explain:

I used washi tape for the panel, lining up the stripes (mostly) to make it look like one striped piece. For the decorative edge, I was stumped, but after I made the grey circle, I decided I didn't want to do anything grey for the edge. Instead I die-cut the Memory Box Pepita Border from the same washi tape. You do need to put it onto some card stock first, and since the punch-outs are small, I used the metal shim to get a good clean cut.

The grey circle offsets one of the MFT Die-namics mini doilies (love that set), and I added a yellow button tied with some grey & white twine. I might be in love with this color combination.  Just sayin'.

Oh, you may have noticed I use a separate panel for the card front when I use washi tape. That's because I am lazy and I can't cut straight. With the separate panel I can wrap the ends of the washi tape to the back and I don't  need to do much trimming. Also, I never have these things planned out all the way, and I might need to put in a brad or something, so the panel is just the perfect approach for me.

One more detail you may have missed. Does the washi tape look lumpy to you? I meant to do that. HAHA! I did, this time. I used a technique that Lisa Spangler showed us here, which is putting die-cut or punched shapes under the washi. Mine has hearts:

Please ignore that fleck of ... something. I wanted to show you the hearts. I burnished them by tracing around the edges with a bone folder so they stand out.

The only real challenge I had with this card was attaching the die-cut border. I eventually just put some Crystal Effects onto my craft sheet and used my fingers to spread it over the back of the die-cut piece. (My Xyron and I don't get along.)

In other news, the Hope You Can Cling To challenges over on Splitcoast are in full swing. I plan to do a few of the challenges today. Why not play a few yourself?  :)
