The Linda's Popped! Blog Hop

HAHAHA! I love that blog hop name. Our dear friend, Linda Trace, has been ready to pop her baby any time, so we planned the Linda's About To Pop Hop, but she went and had the baby early, so we adapted. :D

If you're hopping along, you came here from Danielle's blog. If you want to start at the beginning, you can go to Mary Dawn's blog. The complete list is below.

Welcome to our world, Miss Olivia Scarlett Kadi Trace! I've even made you a card:

I even used (gah) pink for the occasion! :D If you're hopping along, head on over to Sue's blog.

Thanks for stopping by!

Here's the entire hop list:

For The Love Of Washi

I've been in a mojo funk for a week or two now, and nothing has snapped me out of it. Nothing until a package of goodies arrived from Simon Says Stamp, and in said package were several collections of washi tape. I know, I know, I swore I wouldn't buy any more, but it's so pretty!

So, to justify said purchase, I used it to make two cards. I went with my fall-back sketch for using washi tape, but the packs contained four rather than the usual three rolls of tape, so technically it's different. Yeah.

Here's the first one, for a guy:

Fun, huh? I used Hero Hues Cerulean ink for the sentiment.

Here's the one with girlier tapes:

I used Hero Arts Navy for this sentiment, and Memento Luxe Pear Tart and Rose Bud for the hearts. AND, I even broke down and stamped on the inside of this one:

Wow, you can really see the bad stamping when it's all blown up like that. It looked fine in real life. ;/

Unbelievably, both of these have been mailed already, which so rarely happens in my world. Yes, I am very proud. :)

SOS #116 - For The Boys

It's Tuesday, and time for a new challenge at Shopping Our Stash. This week we ask you to make a masculine card. Yep, make a card for a boy or man, or make it really tough and make one for a male teen. I dare you.

When I need a masculine card, I go for patterned paper. This time I used my still-out (ahem) MME Oxford Lane papers to make this:

It's brighter than most "masculine" cards, but you know what? I'm kinda tired of brown and other traditional "male" colors. Also, I know guys who don't fish, hunt, camp, go to the gym, work with tools, or even like trees, all of which are traditional male images. So I went with stripes and BRIGHT!

This card was more difficult to make than it looks, mostly because that piece of striped green paper is a diagonal stripe and I had to focus my brain on trimming it to make the stripes go in a different direction.

Also, that twine? I usually try so hard to get the different colors lined up, and I inevitably fail. For this card I twisted the three together on purpose to get a more blended look, and guess what: they are perfectly aligned. I can't win for trying.

Now it's YOUR turn to make a masculine card. Don't forget to come back to Shopping Our Stash and link us up so we can see what you've made!

I've Got Nuthin'

I'm suffering from serious lack of mojo, so I thought I'd share a current photo of Bobra sunning himself:

It's all I've got. I hope to be back in the saddle very soon. I hope.

Quicky Thanks

I actually sold some stamps last week (thank you!), and being a stamper, I felt compelled to include a quick Thank You card in the boxes. The other night I used some remnants and made two of these:

I just cut a 1/2 sheet of card stock into two strips and then proceeded to not score them in half. I missed. Lookie:

See that score line under the twine? Yeah, that's a boo-boo. In another SYFY trick, I just scored another line where it was supposed to be, then added the twine between the two to make it look like I meant to do that. I notched the edges of the card to keep the twine from slipping off.

All I added to the white card stock was a piece of remnant paper and my standard stamped Thanks, this time in Navy ink to match the navy twine that was still out on my desk. :)

Easy, peasy!

New Toy

When I went to Stampaway a few weeks ago, I was very good at not shopping. However, I did buy one item I'll call "extravagant" because of the price alone, but I loved it, so I got it. Tina was no help, because not only did she convince me it was the best $$ I would ever spend, she talked three other ladies (not all of them with us ... or were they?) into needing it, too. She swore she wasn't on commission, but I'm not so sure ...

Here, you be the judge:

Except for the die-cutting experiments, this was one of the easiest cards I've ever made. The die is from Our Daily Bread, a store I have never shopped at because it's not my style, but this die? Come to Mama! You can take any piece of pretty paper, top it with the die, add a sentiment: done.

I started out trying to cut a piece of Neenah Solar White, but even with the metal shim and two or three passes through the Big Shot, it wouldn't cut through. I switched to SU Whisper White, which is thinner, and it worked when I used the metal shim and three passes. I couldn't add another piece of card stock to the sandwich since it barely passed through with just the metal plate. Sigh.

I thought it would look cool for a wedding card if you have paper with the wedding colors. My only concern is it won't cut through glitter paper or some of the SU Brushed Silver or Gold papers. It might work with the Shimmer White, though. THAT would be cool! I'll need to play with it.

Oooh, what about colored vellum? The only problem there would be how to stick it down, since the back of this piece of white was covered with glue.

Oh, well, I'll have fun playing!  I'll be sure to show you what works and what doesn't. And if you have this die, I'm interested to know how it cuts for you.
