On Fire!!!

No, no fires here, but that's the sentiment that came to mind when I made this card:

I started with this combination sketch & color challenge from CAS Colours & Sketches:

The colors immediately brought to mind my Authentique Renew 6x6 paper pad  -- it's so easy to get the challenge colors when the paper does all the work for you! The sketch looked like the top of a bald man's head ... a bald man with big fuzzy ears and a fuzzy nose. Maybe it's a koala. Either way, I knew I needed to not use circles, so I opted for stars, at least for the three fuzzy bits.

I found a large star in my MFT Accent It - Rock & Roll dies, then got distracted by the flames in the die set and this card was born.

Let's look at that card again, since I've blathered past the fold:

Stars mean "masculine" to me, so even though this paper pack is very feminine (lots of fleurs), I found these patterns in the challenge colors. I cut the flames from the yellow checked piece and colored over them with Copics. I didn't want to totally obliterate the pattern.

Since I don't have that sentiment stamp, I used my Dymo labeler to make my own. :) To anchor it some more, I added a layer of black paper from the Heaplet before I put the whole thing onto a white base.

I rather like it, and it was very fast to make.

Okay, I'm going back in for more challenges. Thanks for stopping by!

Stuff I used: Doodlebug black paper, and the following (Note: I've listed two Dymo labelers below since I don't know which one is closest to my older model.):

  1. This card made me laugh. I just love those flames. I think I need them so I can make other things flame (and I could make pink sparkly flames for that other kind of flame). Fun card!

I managed to run off with my father's cast iron Rotex labeler (not Dymo as previously though) and his hoard of Dymo tapes (really by Dymo) from 1972.... turns out that they don't stick anymore. And not really cast iron but you know...

  3. OMG, Leslie, your thoughts about the sketch made me literally LOL! I do like that you've taken the artistic liberty to use the star and flames, and the sentiment goes along with that perfectly. Thanks for joining us this week at CAS Colours & Sketches! :)
