By now you know I make cards for OWH. I also follow a bazillion challenge blogs, and dutifully print some out several times each week. I also toss the bottom inch of challenges when the pile of un-done challenges starts to topple and impede function on my crafty desk.
Why am I telling you this? Because I ALMOST FAILED OWH! Almost. At the beginning of each month, OWH posts a challenge sponsored by Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD). ODBD will pay for overseas shipping for up to two boxes of cards (for a non-profit that's dependent on contributions to stay afloat, this is a BIG deal), based on the number of entries, so OWH tries to get at least 50 cards posted each month.
Today Sandy, fearless leader and Executive Director of OWH, posted that we are short of the 50 cards needed for this month's ODBD challenge! Wait, didn't I make one? How did I not make one this month? I checked my pile of un-done challenges, and the ODBD challenge was gone! Trashed! EEEEP! Stoopid efficiency, or lack thereof. So off I went to the craft room and made this:
It took all of 15 minutes, too. I had the current Paper Players sketch challenge out on top of the pile:
right next to my pad of Echo Park Simple Life paper. Ba-da-bing, ba-da-boom.
Oh, can you tell what the OWH challenge was? Non? It was stars. I know, you can barely see them, so let me explain.
I was going to put a star where the red-ish heart is, but I thought a heart would look better there. But this was a stars challenge. Hmmmm. So I did both! I die-cut the larger heart from the Simon Says Stamp Large Holiday Shapes set, and a smaller star to put on top of it.
I like the paper I chose for the background, so I cut a vellum circle for the sketch element so the pretty paper didn't all get covered up. Vellum -- adhesive wasn't going to be a challenge for me for a change since the horizontal strip of paper let me put adhesive under the vellum. For the top, I cut three more stars and put a dot of liquid adhesive under each one to hold the vellum down. Plus, the stars add a little more towards the whole challenge theme, which was, at best, lacking.
See:
Stars. :)
I'm off to link up! So, can you make one card with a star on it before Friday to help out OWH? I'm sure they'd appreciate it!
Thanks for stopping by!
Such a sweet card :) I like the idea of vellum for the focal image !
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! You have sneaky stars in there! I wouldn't have noticed them had you not pointed them out. Great card and I love how the die cut stuff all lays down nicely next to each other--the banner with the proper curve to hold the heart and the star inside the heart. Awesome-ness all the 'way 'round.
ReplyDeleteThe vellum adds such a subtle touch to the card, Leslie. The DSP is perfect! Thanks for playing with the Paper Players!
ReplyDeleteI love this DSP and those little stars on the vellum add such a fun touch! Thank you for joining us at The Paper Players this week! XX
