Red & Black

I know some people think Red & Black is a classic combination, and it is, but since I'm a rebel, I like to go against the flow of things and make my own rules. Every once in a while, however, I slip up and fall into that "everyone's doing it" rut, and, well, this happened:

I was innocently hopping along this morning with the Operation Write Home Red Friday Blog Hop, and there were several cards with red & black, so it was filed away in my subconscious. When I finished printing off my list of challenges to work on this weekend, I stepped into the craft room and found a lonely package of self-adhesive mesh from about 150 years ago. It was black. I also spied an unopened package of 6x6 paper, and it had red and black pages in it. I think that card was meant to happen.

The card is based on the current sketch from Clean & Simple:

I first cut the heart out of the red paper from the paper pack, then cut four more white hearts so I could stack them up. I trimmed the sticky mesh and put a strip down the edge of my card. The rest may or may not still be stuck to my paper trimmer.

I die-cut the love from a piece of black & white floral paper from the same pack, then lined up the heart and die-cut love to see where I should stamp the you.

After it was all assembled, it looked boring, so I covered the red heart with my Versamarker and clear embossed it. Three times. It would have been way easier to do if I'd thought to emboss it before I stuck it to the card front.

I have a feeling you'll see that mesh again, as it will stay stuck to my trimmer until I either get pissed enough at it to toss it, or use it. We'll see how that goes.

I'm going to link this card up to the OWH link-up. The purpose of their Red Friday blog hop is to let people know that this is the slow time of year for them. It's past the Christmas card cut-off (too late to send cards overseas for them to arrive home by Christmas), and we're all busy with the holidays here, but the soldiers are still over there, and they still want to write home. I'm going to go through my card stash this weekend and send a box in to OWH. Even if you only have a few extra cards on hand, why not send them in? Check out the post at OWH for guidelines and where to send them.

Alrighty, then, I'm off to link up, and then I've got a few more challenge cards to share.

Thanks for stopping by!

Stuff I used: old self-adhesive mesh, and the following:

  2. I really like your card! I have some mesh like that, only in purple. I hadn't thought about it for quite awhile! Maybe my subconscious will remember how great it looked on your card!
