SOS #180: Favorite Technique

Happy day after Mundane, also knows as Tuesday. It's time for a new challenge over at Shopping Our Stash. This week's theme is Favorite Technique, and we'd like you to ... use your favorite technique on your card or project.

My choice was emboss resist, and I made this:

I opened and used a background stamp I purchased back in May because I had to have it. Finally used in December. Let this be a lesson to you all.

I stamped the background with Versamark on a white panel, then heat-embossed it with white embossing powder. I then colored it using Distress Festive Berries, Dried Marigold, and Mustard Seed inks. Instead of going from one edge to the other, I started in the middle and worked my way out to the edges, just to be different.

For the sentiment I opened and used my Little B Handwritten dies. I cut three of each word from black card stock and glued them together. I'd have cut more, but ... word of caution: as much as I love these dies? There are no holes to poke out the card stock except on the ends, and this is such a delicate shape, it's easy to tear the paper. It took me forever to peel each one out of the die, so I stopped at three each. Yes, I know I could use the dryer sheet technique to release them, but I was on the road when I made this, and I didn't want to deal with dryer sheets and my friend's Vagabond plates. Plus: I'm lazy, and whining is easier.

Now where was I ... oh, yes. I rounded the top corner to try and balance out all the black in the opposite corner, layered the panel on some black card stock, and put it all on a white card base.

With all the pretty background stamps out there, and so many pretty inks, there is no end to what you can do with emboss resist. Plus, you get to heat emboss, which is what ultimately sucked most of us into this hobby, am I right?

I hope you'll play along with us this week! If you're looking for ideas, make sure to stop by the SOS blog and check out what the gals have chosen as their favorite techniques, and maybe leave them some comment love on their blogs.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. yes I have a few background stamps (love them) that have never seen ink but I had to have them. I have never tried this technique it looks interesting to try and as far as the dies I use wax paper between the die and the cardstock, but odd there isn't a couple of spots to poke them out.

  5. Whining is indeed easier. I have a die that has no pokey holes in whatsoever! What the heck is THAT about?! Fun card. I hate decided what my favorite technique is. I think it might be Iris Folding but that isn't really a stamping thing, but that's okay right??!

  6. Perfectly executed and this is a wonderful technique! Again, you have me wondering why I can't edit myself when creating. CAS is so powerful! Very nicely done!
