Then I thought of the current Simon Wednesday Challenge to add a little texture and The Male Room challenge to make your own background.
So, I broke out three colors of Distress ink and some embossing paste, and opened and used my new-to-me Simon Says Stamp Zig Zag Dots Stencil to make the background for this card:
That did the trick! I had the colors, texture and background. Check, check, and check. But then I needed a sketch ... you know, something to do with that background. So I tried the current Retro Sketches sketch:
I actually tried several different pieces of washi tape for that vertical element, but none of them were quite right. When I finally put the white panel on the blue layer, I realized my best option was to stick with the blue, so I added a strip over the piece of orange washi tape that's hiding there.
When I was making the background, I wasn't too careful when I applied the different rows of colored paste over the stencil, and I was left with hunky piles of the stuff all over. I got a hair-brained idea to scrape off the excess, but instead of scraping across (with the row of color), I scraped down, which blended some of the colors. At first I was miffed, then I decided I liked it, so I meant to do this:
Yeah, it's blurry, sorry. |
And yes, the colors here are a bit muted compared to the challenge colors, but they started out bright and bold, and were muted by the white paste. I even added color twice. Hey, I tried.
That's it, there ain't no more. Except for the mess in the craft room that needs my attention. *ahem*
Thanks for stopping by!
