Are You A No-reply-blogger?

8/1/12 UPDATE: Thanks to some alert readers (thank you!) I've heard this no longer works. :( Some silliness about privacy issues. Well, I think if *I* want to allow you to reply to me, I should have that option. Stoppit with the Nanny State already! Especially since you have to manually set this to make it happen. By default you are no-reply. Pffth.

Here's a link to another blog with pictures about how to revert to Old Blogger to change your reply options: http://mrslambsclass.blogspot.com/2012/07/what-im-no-reply-blogger-google-fix.html

If you are linked into Google+, try this: http://jenniffier.blogspot.com/2012/08/google-profile.html. You'll lose some Google+ stuff, but at least people can TALK TO YOU! (grrr)

----------------------------------------------------

A while ago, I found out how to change my Blogger profile so when I leave comments on someone's blog, they can hit Reply in the email (assuming they get the email for comments) and have the name resolve to an email address. If you don't have this set up correctly in Blogger, people see no-reply-blogger instead of an email address. This is not helpful if you've asked a question and expect them to answer you. Or if you've won blog candy and they can't contact you. Just sayin'.

Please note: This is not a Google setting -- it's a Blogger setting.

Way back when, I had posted a link to a How To blog post on another blog, but it's a dead link now (that blog must be gone), so here's how to fix your profile:
  1. In blogger.com, open your Dashboard.
  2. Click the down arrow next to your name and click Blogger profile.
  3. Click on the orange Edit Profile button.
  4. Under Privacy on the left, check the box for "Show my Email Address."
  5. Save changes.
I know, I know, how intuitive is that? Not.I hope this helps someone out there in blogland.

  8. Unfortunately, with the new Google+ dashboard and profile this fix no longer works .. I know because this week I became a 'no-reply' and not because I opted in, no, I didnt even know it happened til a blog friend told me. I whined about it to Google/Blogger and was told they did it to protect our privacy because many blogs were being hijacked .. well I personally like to make my own decisions but it seems this is one I dont get a say in

How did I end up here? I Googled no reply comment in the hopes someone had figured it out ...

my email if you'd like to reply is fashionistanyc at gmail dot com

I'd love to hear what you really think! :-)

PS: I've had to disable Anonymous comments, because the spammers were killing me. If you are unable to comment, please email me your comment and I'll get it posted for you. Sorry. (stoopid spammers)
