It's Tuesday, and time for a new challenge at Shopping Our Stash. This week's theme is pretty straight-forward: Paper Piecing. You must include some paper piecing on your project.
In my world, this is easy, since I prefer not to color, and paper piecing is an easy alternative.
Here's my card, then I'll explain:
I know you've seen this stamped image a lot lately, but it's too easy to use. I told myself the next time I used it, I was going to try to color it. HA. FAIL. I did, however, reach into the way-back of my 6x6 paper collection and pulled out my Basic Grey Oxford papers. Oh, and you can tell it was paper pieced since I glued the papers on crooked. I think I get extra points, though, that I cut them out mostly straight.
The thing with these images is the eyes and teef. No matter what I try, no white medium - Enamel Accents, white gel pen, etc. - looks right on the eyes and teef, so I've taken to stamping them on white and paper piecing them back onto the faces. White every time.
Cats eyes aren't white, though, they are colored, so I used Copics to color them. This time I cut out the cat's eyes attached to the nose, as I wanted to color the nose pink. That actually worked out quite nicely, except I almost went blind with the fussy cutting.
I outlined the images in a very light blue Copic, glued on a stray piece of black patterned paper to ground the critters, then stamped a sentiment under the strip of paper.
I was going for a blue card here, but you can see how that worked out. Only the balloon made it. Too much green, though green used to be THE color in my world. I covered the balloon with clear Wink of Stella, because I could.
So that's my contribution to the SOS Paper Piecing challenge. Got paper scraps? Got an image you don't feel like coloring? Just love to paper piece? Then I think you should play along with us this week at SOS!
Thanks for stopping by!
Stuff I used: Basic Grey Oxford 6x6 paper pack, Simon Says Stamp Kelly Purkey Happy Birthday stamp set, and the following:
Crazy polkadot bunny = swoon...
ReplyDeleteLOVE this cute and funky card. Bonus points for almost managing to avoid colouring entirely! Lol!

ReplyDeleteGreat paper piecing AND fussy cutting on this cute card! I always have a hard time coloring those images too and it's so much easier to paper piece them.

Paper piecing is soooooooo much better than colouring!!!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya on fussy cutting blindness (she types squinting at the monitor as she left her glasses at home today)
Oh my gosh, I burst out laughing with that bunny....such a perfect silly whimsical image is perfect with those dots. LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteThe cutting part always just about does me in, but I do like the look of paper-piecing! This is so very cute. And just embrace the imperfect adhering... I almost always have to. ;)

I do like to color, but I have to admit, it was a lot of fun to paper piece this time around. Love your card, and kudos for almost going blind with all the fussy cutting. What a team player!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun images you chose to paper piece, and I love the papers you chose! Super cute, and sure to delight anyone who receives this happy card :)
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw this card in the SOS email I knew it was yours! These particular images and those patterns--so you. Fun card and really I should use these images more myself. Or any images more myself these days. I've been so pre-occupied with using up kits and already made pieces that I suspect I'm forgetting how to make cards from scratch.
ReplyDeleteToo cute!! And that is indeed some FUSSY cutting!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Great paper selections and the images are just stinkin' cute!

I love this stamp, I reach for it all the time too! And yep, you need to piece the eyes & teef, it just doesn't work any other way!
