Lost in Pasteland, Part First

The other day, after I posted my Are We In Danger? post, several people asked what Ferro is. Today I decided to show you, but it got a little out of hand. I ended up making eight cards, but I'll only show you four at a time, for fear of losing you.

Before I tackled the Ferro, I took a baby step and made some cards with colored embossing paste. This is really easy to do, though the constant cleaning and wiping does get tedious. Gotta keep those colors separate, and the paste from hardening.

First, I made this background:

Sorry if it's out of focus. My eyes are tired and I can't tell.

I taped a piece of white card stock to my craft mat, then put the Dylusions stencil over it and taped it down. Then I smooshed some Mustard Seed Distress ink onto my mat and mixed in a little embossing paste. Mix, mix, mix until it was well-blended, then I spread it onto the upper left side of the stencil.  Wipe off the palette knife, wipe off the craft mat, then repeat with the next color (I used Spiced Marmalade). Repeat again with Peacock Feathers. Clean up and go wash off the stencil immediately. You don't want that paste to dry on the stencil.

I like where the colors overlap and it makes new colors. Bonus!

Then I pulled out a second stencil and made this background:

Same idea, same steps, just a different stencil. Here is a close-up of the paste:

As I sat there, about to go wash off the stencil, I got smart. I had two other stencils out, but all that washing! So I just re-used the same stencil and same colors of ink & paste, and made two more panels. THEN I washed the stencil.  I have my moments.

Once everything was dry, I matted the panels on some orange card stock, then put them onto white card bases.  The sentiment is from Mama Elephant: Many Thanks.

Next up, I'll do a post with the Ferro cards. Sorry if that first paragraph was a tease.

PS; The colors for the paste were from the current Paper Players color challenge:

  3. I love how these turned out! The colors mix so well together and I love the designs. It makes me want to get out my embossing paste and make a mess.

  4. Such a tease! That second card! I love the colors. I pulled out my stencil paste the other day and thought long and hard about it. I never used it and have gotten rid of most of my stencils--definitely all the brass ones. I'll let the rest of you do all this pasting and washing up and then admire what you make.
