By now most of you know of my feelings toward (gah) pink. I have a particular aversion to it during the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A good cause, don't get me wrong, but GAH, the PINK! I just read that the Susan G Komen Foundation is trying to have pink drill bits made. I can't make up this stuff. ENOUGH, I say, ENOUGH!
So you know I wouldn't do this for just anyone, but I did make a card for the new Jingle Belles challenge to use pink on a Christmas card.
I know, I know, but for Lauren ... sigh. EVERYONE should play this one, since The Belles: Lauren and Stef are donating cold, hard cash to the Susan G Komen Foundation for every entry linked up over the next fortnight. Yeah, even if they do make pink drill bits.
As an added bonus (for me, anyway), Jessi, another of my fellow Shopping Our Stash gals, is the guest at Jingle Belles for this challenge! Whoot!
Here's my card:
I was amused by one of the rules that said you need to have noticeable pink, and not just Rudolph's nose. HOW DID SHE KNOW I wanted to do that?!?!?!?!??! Thwarted! Pffth.
So I pulled out my Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses 6x6 paper pack, and used the (gah) pink papers. Small wonder those are the ones left, huh? I cut them into strips and made banners. There's even pink in the trees. Go ahead and embiggen the image if you don't believe me.
For the sentiment, I rifled through my Christmas drawer and found the JOY sentiment from Verve. I think it was a freebie with an order, and I haven't ordered from Verve in many, many years. I had to crack the seal on that baby and show it some ink.
About that ink: I stamped the sentiment in Memento Luxe Elderberry and clear-embossed it. I think I've mentioned before that the only reason I purchased that color ink was because of a line from Monty Python's Holy Grail: Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!
Yes, I hear that line every time I use the ink. And yes, I've played it over and over again while writing this post.
Once the sentiment was embossed, I went to work on the wreath:
I used a Fantastix with some Memento Luxe Pear Tart ink to color the leaves, and I dug out my OMG I NEED THOSE Zig Wink of Stella 12-pack Fine Glitter Pens and used the red one on the teeny tiny berries. Totally justified that purchase. ;/
I used another piece of burgundy and pink paper for the layer behind the white panel, then before I put it on the white base, I looked at the banners and thought it still needed something. PINK! It needed PINK! I used my craft knife to cut slits on either side of the banners, fed through a piece of pink taffeta ribbon, and tied a pretty bow. ARE YOU HAPPY, LAUREN?!?!?!
(gratuitous pink ribbon photo) |
Yes, I itch, but all that pink is out of my craft room and will be sent to someone this winter so it will be out of my house! Pink, BE GONE! Is it November yet?
Okay, I'm better now.
Please think about playing along with this Jingle Belles challenge so they can send LOTS of money to the SGK Foundation, which means LOTS of pink Christmas cards need to be made, so hop to it!!!!
And thanks for stopping by!
Stuff I used: JOY stamp from Verve, Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses 6x6 paper pack, SU Pretty In Pink taffeta ribbon, and the following:
i am happy, indeed; in fact i am flippin' ecstatic, missus and totally honored!!!!!! you have made the ultimate sacrifice into the land of (GAH!) ♥pink♥ and it is verrrrry much appreciated!!! the thing that always amazes me on these occasions is that for someone who hates (GAH!) ♥pink♥ so much... you are realllllllly awesome at making pink cards for us at JINGLE BELLES each october! oh the irony!!!! :) (seriously this is a SHOWSTOPPER; i can't imagine that you don't secretly love it a teeeeeeny tiiiiiny bit?! maybe? just a smidge??? ok, nevermind, i definitely love it enough for us both, and i'd be happy to take it off your hands in december!) ;)
ReplyDelete(i'm pretty sure a nice streamlined greeting such as this could easily be carried by one (otherwise unladen) african sparrow or two english ones... tho the latter would have to have some serious cooperative skills...)
(ps: i love the elderberry line, but my favorite is palin's, "'elp 'elp! i'm bein' repressed!")
(pss: in a holy grail context, your "xmas bunnies" card from last week takes on a totally different & very slightly menacing context... hmmm...)
It's for a good cause and I think it's lovely. I think you should do pink more often...heh heh.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of a better reason to use pink! Even though it's not your "favorite" color you used it beautifully!
ReplyDeleteLove those pretty banners ... so perfect with that pretty pink bow ... so very glad you went Pink with us at Jingle Belles ... thanks again for joining us.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I feel the same way you do about the overdoing of the pink, but I think what they are doing at Jingle Belles is so commendable. Thanks for shuddering along and helping to support a great cause that affects so many women (and men).
ReplyDeleteLOL, for as much as you hate pink, you made a beautiful card using it! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm being repressed! BAHAHAHAHA
ReplyDeleteI think I have to watch that movie again today. LOVE.
And I love your card - for it being (GAH) pink, it is a stunner! And totally justified the pen purchase. Win win win!
Beautiful! i feel the same way about pink, but you make it work. (LOVE monty python too).
ReplyDeleteLOL too funny, I'm not a big pink fan either but you gotta love the cause. Lovely card and thank you for the Monty Python reference, brilliant!!
ReplyDeleteLove this card! It worked out so well and it definitely has pink but it isn't overwhelmingly pink so you shouldn't be hurling too much!
ReplyDeleteWell for being anti-pink...you sure make a pretty pink card! With ribbon even...what is happening?
