As I was reviewing my stack of undone challenges the other day, I got a clue and made this:
and the current Fusion challenge:
and was largely influenced by a card I can't find that had a wreath made out of punched or stamped stars. There are a few on Pinterest like it, but not the one I remember.
Roll that all together and you get (here's my card again so I can see it while I blather):
Following the Fusion sketch and shiny silver wreath idea, I die-cut three pieces of card stock (Bazzill Navajo, Simon Says Stamp Fog, and mystery silver glitter -- as close as I could get to the color challenge colors) with my Simon Says Stamp Large Holiday Shapes star dies, four times each. I traced my mini glue dots roll to get a circle, then started sticking the stars to the circle. Once I'd completely covered the line, I stopped. :)
I cut a piece of patterned vellum into a banner shape and used a few glue dots to stick it to the wreath. I had a large shiny star left over, so I used it for the star element of the sketch. I was going to add a red bow, but that would have broken the color scheme. Plus, I forgot.
To attempt to show you that vellum really does have a pattern:
You may just need to believe me.
To finish off the card front, I stamped the sentiment (it was still out ...) using Hero Arts Silver ink and clear-embossed it. Then I layered the white panel onto a piece of SSS Fog card stock and mounted that to the white base using foam adhesive. The end.
This turned out like I'd imagined it would (minus the red bow), which is always a pleasant surprise in my world.
Thanks for stopping by!
PS: Is anyone else humming Vincent (Starry, Starry Night) now?
ETA: This card won Honorable Mention at the Fusion card challenge!
ETA again: This card won Top 3 at Colours and Sketches!
Stuff I used: A Muse sentiment, vat of clear embossing powder, Bazzill Navajo (blue) card stock, mystery silver glitter paper, misc patterned vellum, SU mini glue dots, and the following:
Love this!
ReplyDeleteOnce more you have me chuckling away as I sit with two kittens on my knee while I read your post. Your card turned out just perfect, even if it doesn't have a red bow.
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous card - beautiful sparkly stars. Thanks for joining in this week at CC&S - Jacqueline xx
ReplyDeleteLove this one! The colors are so pretty together and you made a perfect circle with them. I tried this last year and made a mess of it. Knowing when to stop seems to be the key.
ReplyDeleteHi. Great wreath. The vellum banner is lovely. Simple idea but looks so pretty.I've only just stopped 'Starry starry night' from the Less is More challenge the other week.
ReplyDeleteI believe you...maybe...this is too awesome. I love the mix of textures/finishes on the stars!
ReplyDeleteI really like this. I had to do a star card recently and while perusing for ideas I saw lots of star circles (and other ideas) so I'm sure I saw your inspiration as this had a familiar feel to it. Since you had individual stars I like how you came up with your plan to get them in a circular wreath. Quite brilliant.
