Yesterday was a gorgeous day. Well, it LOOKED gorgeous - the sun was bright and the sky was very blue:
... but OMG, it was H O T. There was a slight breeze at times, which I believe is the only reason we didn't die. Okay, that was a slight exaggeration. Just slight. In past years we have had people pass out from heat exhaustion. Seriously. I did pack some frozen towels, but I forgot about them until it was too late. NEXT week, though ... ugh.
Today's photos will be presented in the order they were taken, mostly because it was so HOT there weren't a lot of dogs out (good owners!). Even Tweety the bird's owner left the critter at home.
Let's begin! First up - melons! -->
I have one, and yes, they smelled marvelous.
Next up - my usual shot of Farmer Mike's table:
... which contained this:
Ew. Okra. I am a Yankee and I do not like this food item. Not.one.bit.
Sweet peppers:
... green peppers:
... and the colors of summer. This my favorite part of the market season. All the food is so colorful! -->
Cukes:
Now you KNOW these were fresh-picked!
Eggplant:
The last of the blueberries:
On the left you can see some of Farmer Mike's killer jalepenos.
At Farmer Katie's tent, she had these pretty beets:
Beets is (are) another one of the Won't Eat foods on my list. Never liked them.
Look at all these different maters:
Our first doggie pic of the day:
A sampling of PA fruits:
Peaches, plums and apricots. Yum!
Pretty cut flowers, too:
At the floral tent, they had sunflowers! -->
... and these things, which are not roses:
She told me what they are, but I promptly forgot, even though she said it very s l o w l y, twice, and had me repeat it, twice.
The find of the day (for me) - Firecracker Zinnias:
GORGEOUS color!
A doggie encounter:
BIG dogs!
Thirsty dog: -->
This guy was huge (probably still is)! Look at those feet! He is a mutt and is about 2 years old. He was still acting like a puppy. A very BIG puppy!
Here is the black dog being a good dog:
And here's that BIG dog again:
... just chillin'. He was so friendly!
The bakery tent is front and center at our market, and it is the most hoppin' place of all our tables. Well, DUH! No surprise there! Just look at this stuff:
Guava-filled pastries? HELLO!
The bread table early in the day:
ALL of this was gone by 2 pm. ALL of it.
Empanadas:
One of the spinach ones was my lunch.
Here is my flower vase arrangement:
I love that they make it up just for me each week.
One more hot dog:
One of MaryBeth's daughters was finger-knitting:
So cool!
And the photographer bought this from the bead people:
A hummingbird! His wife loves hummingbirds. Wasn't that a sweet thing to do?
It's not flat, either! -->
So pretty!
Well, that's all I have to share. I hope to get stampy today and have something to show you later. I am playing with some new digital images and paper piecing and coloring and matting and ... well, I hope it all goes according to plan. I should have some irreverence for you later!
Thanks for stopping by!
Not many dogs, but the ones that were there were QUALITY. I like okra - but then, I like raw oysters too. You have a great market - ours is much smaller. I always love this blog every week!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever tried the "neck cooling" bandana? I've used one for ball games and it really keeps you cool. Here is a link from amazon to give you an idea. They are filled with beads and you soak it and it keeps you cool.
