We Three Trees

This card happened because I saw the current Crazy 4 Challenges challenge to use the words of Oh, Christmas Tree as inspiration for our card. I remembered I have a Simon Says Stamp die with three trees, so I opened it and used it to make this:

Me being me, I opted to go rogue and use weird colors for the trees. I pulled out my MFT plaid papers and chose two pieces that had purple in them. Then I die-cut the plaids with the tree dies. I also cut it -- a lot -- from a piece of SSS Blue Violet. Most of you know that purple is my second most disliked color, just one notch above (gah) pink.

WAIT! Is that pink in the middle tree? Sigh.

So my plan was to stack the purple outlines in different thicknesses (I have, left to right, stacked them at three, two and four or five). Before I stuck everything down, I decided there was too much white, so I sponged in some clouds and added a die-cut snow hill. Then I glued down the purple outlines and added the plaid pieces.

The sentiment was stamped in Memento Luxe Elderberry*, the closest I could get to the card stock color, and clear-embossed it.

I thought it was still missing something, so I took one of my deer brads, cut off the legs on the back, and stuck it to the card front with mini glue dots.

It's certainly not a traditional Christmas card, but then *I* made it.

Thanks for stopping by!

*Elderberry ink. I purchased this color ONLY because of the name (you know how much I adore purple). It's from a line in, you guessed it, Monty Python and the Holy Grail (skip ahead to 1:45 if you don't want to watch the whole 2:09, but who wouldn't want to watch the whole thing? It's a classic!):

Some of the stuff I used: vat of clear embossing powder, deer brad, and the following:

  2. I noticed the gah pink right off the bat. I was unaware of your aversion to purple. Cool card and I like the plaid trees and that brad!

  3. You are the master could sponger. Everytime I see them I think its patterned paper until I read. This card is adorable, I too love to cut the brad legs off and use them with glue dots.

  4. Hooray for purple! :P I am glad you explained why you own the elderberry Luxe, though — I only own the original Memento! I was also a bit worried about you cutting the back legs off a deer... until I realized you meant the brad's back legs. What a sweet Christmas card, purple and pink and all!
