Be Yourself

Hellooooo! I've made a lot of pretty trash this week, but I've discovered what I can and cannot do in the few hours after I get home from the Day Job. Learning or trying new things isn't one of those, so I've moved on.

Today I put everything away and started over. I pulled out some challenges that inspired me and combined two of them. For the colors I used the current Play Date Cafe challenge:

though I used white instead of cream, and for the sketch I used the current Friday Mash-up challenge:

and I made this:

Again with the white card base! Sigh.

The second (mash-up) piece of the Friday Mash-up is to use your favorite new stamp set, and I chose to open and use my Simon Says Stamp Be die + words. I also opened and used the Simon Says Stamp Vertical Speech Bubble. I had this idea to line up the Be die with the top edge of a piece of white card stock and cut it so it became part of the piece, not a separate die-cut. That actually worked, but you can't tell because I decided to cut more of them and layer the Be so it stood out more. It totally is part of the white piece, though, where you see the die-cut layers overlap it.

The speech bubble cuts two pieces, and I decided I wanted them put back together. I also wanted them popped up, so I was faced with a challenge. I covered the back with washi tape to keep it together. HA! Washi tape is the new duct tape. It can do anything.

I wanted to stamp the word in Charcoal, but I DO NOT HAVE CHARCOAL INK! I must correct this oversight, and soon! And I know me pretty well, so I know I'm not good enough to over-stamp the sentiment to make it darker. I worked too hard on that piece to ruin it.

One good thing about this crazy hobby of ours is you don't really ever have to make a decision. I couldn't decide if I wanted a green or a cantaloupe sequins next to the sentiment, so I didn't decide! I used both! :) I like them nested like that.

The yummy ribbon is some new SU ruffled ribbon I needed to try. It stretches, which is fun, but I stuck it down with 1/8" Sookwang tape. It's not going anywhere.

Okay, I think I'll go try a few more challenges and hopefully make something besides pretty trash.

Thanks for stopping by!

Products used: Neat & Tangled sequins, SU Pistachio Pudding and Crisp Cantaloupe ribbon, Bazzill Basics Lace card stock, Basic Grey Fiction 12x12 paper, misc washi tape, and the following:
