It's Talk Like a Pirate Day!

As I was digging through my Theme* category of stamps the other day, I ran across an old Cornish Heritage Farms set by Kim Hughes**. I got it for that cutie patootie bird, which I used on my card:

I might be a little proud of this card, mostly because I didn't destroy it when I kept adding things.

I started by stamping the pirate ship in SSS Smoke ink (I didn't want it to be too bold). Then I dug out my SSS Nautical Borders stamps and stamped the waves in Soft Pool. So far, so good.

I stamped the parrot in Memento black onto a white remnant, colored him with Copics, then fussy-cut him. I was all done when I schmeared some black on his wing. NOT starting over, so I used a multiliner to add some lines to his wing to make it look like I meant to do that.

The sky was boring, but my usual sky color is Soft Sky, and I thought that would clash with the Soft Pool waves, so I used SSS Fog ink instead. I really like how the whole background is kinda grey. Well, except for the Soft Pool waves, but let's not get too technical here.

I adhered the parrot with foam tape to make him really pop. After all, he's the only real color on the card.

I like the "arrrgh" sentiment, but the card needed something else. I dug out some rubber-cutting scissors (the set came as an uncut red rubber foam-mounted set), cut out the Treasure sentiment and added that over the waves.

No birds. I didn't draw in any birds. I must be slipping.

So go talk like a pirate today and really irritate your friends and coworkers. My tolerance for hearing it lasts about 10 seconds. But it is an important, oft-misunderstood, and neglected holiday. And now that I've used that stamp, I'm good for another year. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

*I'm still working on stamp organization. One of these days I'll show you what I've done, but for now it's still a work-in-progress. Like that "Theme" category. My major categories are Sentiments, Theme, Floral, Graphic,  Birds, Cats (duh), Critters (my second largest category), and a few others. I think I need to work on sub-dividing the Critters and Theme categories before I do a reveal.

**When Kim finally got ownership of her CHF designs back, she started offering re-makes of the sets under her Kismet Collection on the Paper Smooches site.  For some reason, this set is not listed under Kismet, but it is available under her Stamps category here. And this set comes with matching dies. BONUS! I've also linked to them below at SSS and EH.

Stuff I used: CHF Ahoy Matey rubber stamps (I've linked to the current set and dies below), Copics (0, YG25, YG03, YR09, R05, BG99, B05), Gold Gelly Roll pen (for the earring), and the following:

  3. possibly the best card ever made by anyone for any occasion ever. & not just b/c i love ITLAP (arrrrrrrrr, matey, fasten down the mainsail and shiver me timbers!!!) but it's just a BEEEEEEEAUTIFULLY composed piece, from the grey ship and softly stormy sky, to the pop of the parrot (which is a weird phrase sorry) the double sentiment, the multi-component waves... this is perfection, basically. yowza! ♥

  4. I agree with Lauren, it is a perfect card. So much interesting stuff to look at but none of it fights anything else. It is perfectly designed and executed.

  6. "Walk the farking plank, ahole. And gimme your rum!" How's that for pirate speak? That's as pirate-y as you're getting out of me. Love the grays from the high seas and how your parrot pops.
