Sending Hugs

Here's one more card I made last weekend:

It was nearing the end of the day, and I was pondering this piece of water color experiment I had in my UFO box. Then I spied a piece of glitter paper on my pal's desk. I'd also spied the Simon Says Stamp Falling Hearts die in her "stuff I have but mostly haven't used yet" pile of dies, and an idea was born!

First I used the partial die-cutting method to only cut the hearts within the colored part of the paper. I just hung the bottom of the paper off the edge of the cutting plate when I ran it through the Vagabond. It worked perfectly!

Next I cut a piece of the silver glimmer paper and put it behind the die-cut piece. So shiny!

I layered the water color panel on a piece of Simon Says Audrey Blue card stock, then put the whole think on a white base.

The sentiment is from the Lawn Fawn So Much To Say set. I stamped it onto the smooth side of a piece of water color paper so it matched the white panel. Both the water color panel and the sentiment strip are mounted on foam tape.

I do love working with parts-is-parts and having it come together like this. And I like that my friend has stuff laying around on her desk like I do -- there's so much inspiration in that! I can't be inspired by looking at a pristine desk; I just can't.

Now I'm headed back to the craft room to see what else I can rustle up.

Thanks for stopping by!

SOS #170: Shower Time!

It's Tuesday, and time for a new Shopping Our Stash challenge. This week's theme is Shower Time!, and we're using our shower curtains as inspiration for our cards.

Here's my card:

which was based on my shower curtain:

I've had this shower curtain forever, and I love it. I've always wanted to make a card based on the patterns -- leaves, Fall, frayed edges. Finally, I've made one!

It all started last year when I bought a roll of "hemp ribbon" which is really just loosely woven burlap, and not much good for anything, which is probably why I haven't used it until now.  I opened it and cut off about a 4" piece, which I used here. The patterned paper is a piece of card stock from The Heaplet. I couldn't figure out how to make the burlap stick, so I poked holes in the card stock and put in three brads around some of the burlap's fibers to hold it in place.

I next opened my never-used Lawn Fawn Stitched Leaves dies. I love them! Don't know why I haven't used them before now. I cut them out of textured papers from my miscellaneous card stock color packs now stored in my organized colored card stock section.  I arranged four of them onto the card panel, then pondered how to make them stick. Answer: more brads! So I went into my collection of Almost Every Colored Brad and got three that pretty well matched the card stock leaves. I then  glued down the green one (I thought the card needed some green), and poked holes and attached the three top leaves.

By now the card was getting pretty tall, and it still needed a sentiment. Foam tape to the rescue! I stamped the sentiment in Hero Arts Brown Bark onto a remnant of cream textured card stock, and attached it with two layers of foam tape. I put a little wet glue under the left end of the banner to make it stick down to the bottom leaf.

For my last act, I mounted the panel to a folded green textured card base that came in a pack with matching envelopes. I acquired these in another "here, you take them" moment in a friend's craft room.

Ya know what? 100% of this card is miscellaneous stuff, a feat not normally achieved in these parts. Go, me!

So that's what I've made inspired by my shower curtain. I think you should look at your shower curtain, get inspired, and play along! Be sure to check out what my teammates have made - they have some pretty cool shower curtains!

Thanks for stopping by!

Stuff I used: textured green folded card, misc textured card stock (for the leaves), miscellaneous brads, patterned card stock from The Heaplet, remnant of cream textured card stock, and the following:

Just Playing

One of the cards I made this past weekend pretty much made itself. Gotta love that! Here it is, then I'll explain:

This is a piece of paper from the Chickaniddy Scrumptious 6x6 pack, and it called to me. I trimmed an inch off of each side so the points would be centered, then put it onto a brown layer from the same pack.

In a fit of rare common sense, I actually ordered the coordinating bling for the paper pack. I usually don't bother, as I have a squillion pearls, gemstones and enamel dots, and heaven knows I don't need more. But I did get them.

Only one problem: I didn't read the fine print. I thought they were enamel dots, so I stuck my brown panel to the card base, thinking I'd just add a few dots and be done. But nooooo, these are brads, and not small brads, either. I had to disassemble my card, sacrificing the one side of the base, poked holes through both panels where I wanted to put the brads, then put that onto a new base. Oh, the humanity.

I will say, though, that these are a perfect match for the stripes, so maybe I need more matching bling. I really don't want to get into that habit, though. It could be trouble.

Does that sentiment look familiar? Yes, it was still out from two other cards I made last weekend, and it was perfect for this card, too. I also declared it to be the third spot in my visual triangle, the brads being the other two.

This was almost too easy. To make up for it, I made a more difficult card, which I'll share in a few days. Hopefully by mid-week I'll have my bags unpacked and my craft desk re-assembled so I can make new stuff. :)

Stamplorations Challenge

I played the current Stamplorations sketch challenge:

and made this:

I used a few tags from the All Abut Scrapping Aged Linen Tags, which is one of the digital images I selected  when I won their last challenge. (squee) I thought they'd be fun to use behind other images, but here I just lined up three of them to stand in for the vertical elements of the sketch.

I used my still-out sentiment freebie from Lawn Fawn, and I stamped it in a brown chalk ink whose name I forgot to write down. Both the white panel and the sentiment are mounted with foam tape. I thought the card was so simple, it needed a little pop somehwere. :)

In real life, the threads in the tags lay down, but not for their photo shoot. So annoying.

That's it for my OMG I NEED TO POST THESE AND LINK UP cards. I have a few more that were just "playing around" cards, which are sometimes the best kind. I'll give your RSS feed little break and post them tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by!

I Like You

For my next challenge card, I made this:

following the current Crazy 4 Challenges sketch:

Recognize that paper? Yep, some remnants of my MAMBI papers. They are still not all gone.

I wanted a color behind the white panel, so I opened my new-to-me 6x6 pad of Scrumptious (that's its name!) papers from Chickaniddy. I chose a really busy floral piece I knew I'd probably not use by itself, and took advantage of all the color for my layer. It coordinates with the MAMBI colors, yet doesn't have to match perfectly.

The sentiment was a freebie I got with one of my massive Lawn Fawn orders -- that Kelly Marie is a real sweetie! I stamped it in Memento Luxe black and embossed it with clear embossing powder.

I thought the card still needed something, so I added some black bling to the horizontal piece and called it finished.

I might be a little happy that I'm using what remains of that MAMBI paper. Some day it will ALL be gone! :)
