SOS #201: Oldest Washi Tape

It's Tuesday and time for a new challenge at Shopping Our Stash. This week we'd like you to use your Oldest Washi Tape. That's right: oldest. We think it's been around long enough for people to have an "oldest" stash.  If you don't have any washi tape (gasp) feel free to use a faux washi tape technique, or washi tape stamps. Some links were provided in the SOS post.

For my card, I was pretty sure I had some "oldest", so I made this:

I have two containers full of MME stacks of washi tape. Back when they were new, I might have purchased them all, even the ones with gah pink. I'm pretty sure I'll never run out.

This is also my oldest, go-to sketch for using washi tape. It's so easy!  Especially with the matchy-matchy MME washi stacks! I also work with a 4x5.25 panel of white, which allows me to tuck under the washi tape. Then I just put it on foam tape to attach it to the base.

The sentiment is from a set that works with a wavy banner, and I tried to straighten it out ... oh, wait, I meant to do that!

CSSC #4 Mid-challenge Post

We're mid-way through my current Sketch Challenge, which means I've  made another card! :)

Here's the sketch:

I just flipped the sketch 90 degrees so the sentiment would fit. It's still a bold sentiment stamped on pretty paper. You do remember you can stamp on patterned paper, right? I usually forget.

If I'd been thinking clearly, I'd have added some acetate and sequins to make this a shaker card, but once I stamped and embossed the sentiment onto the yellow paper, I thought I'd stop and save myself the work. I'm so lazy.

I also thought this challenge would be easy, but so far there has been only one -- ONE -- entry. You have until midnight on the 21st to enter, and you could win some of my cool duplicate stuff ... I might have a bunch.

Market Update

No, not market as in Stock Market. At least not in my world. I'm talking Farmers Market, and today was week two of our new little market.

I didn't stay all day, but it seemed traffic was pretty steady while I was there, which is a good thing.

Today people showed up early to snag some of the very popular hanging baskets. Here are a few that caught my eye:

And no, I still didn't buy one, lovely as they are. I want them to LIVE!

We had a new vendor today: Hope In Action Giving Garden. Hope in Action's Giving Garden is located at Marvin's in Lebanon, Ohio, and is a non-profit organization that helps feed needy families in Warren County.

They were at our little market selling starter plants, and 100% of the proceeds go back to the food pantries. What a great organization, and we were so happy to have them. Here are some of the plants they had:

And, because tomorrow is Mother's Day, the first 50 ladies to shop the market each received a rose:

Nice touch, eh? Not my idea, but a nice one all the same. :)

Hopefully in the next few weeks we'll start seeing some early produce, but for now the breads, desserts, kettle corn, and eggs are keeping our customers happy.

One-Layer Blossom (Not)

The second of two cards I made at a recent crafty play date (yeah, two cards in one day - whoot), was an attempted CASE of Jennifer McGuire's recent Vellum Cards post.

Here's my card, then I'll explain:

This is the second of two versions. The first is in the trash, since I didn't plan well. I wanted to make it a one-layer card, so I knew I couldn't do the die-cut part that Jennifer did. Nope, I'd need to stamp the sentiment. The first attempt left the sentiment for last, and it didn't fit, so I started over, this time stamping the sentiment first, then fitting the flowers in around it. Better.

It was all about the colors of embossing powder for me. They are so happy!

Do you see the problem here, though? Where would one write inside the card that (1) would write on vellum or (2) not show through the front? #FAIL

So it started out as a one-layer card, even if it's unusable. Details.

I added a linen paper liner and tied it with gold cord, letting the bow part hang over the bare spot on the upper left of the card. It was a plan all along. :) Maybe.

Even if it was a failed one-layer card, I'm still happy I tried it. And I might do it again, and make it more than one-layer again. A girl can only deal with so much pressure at one time, you know.

SOS #200: Big, Bold & Beautiful

It's Tuesday, and time for a new challenge at Shopping Our Stash. This week we celebrate 200 challenges. 200!!!! To mark this milestone, our theme is Big, Bold & Beautiful, and we'd like you to use something big (letters, flowers, ribbon...), or bold, bright colors or images. So many possibilities!

For my card, I  chose bold colors and a bold sentiment. Here's the card, then I'll explain:

I chose bold colors, hoping it maybe looks like FIRE. I water colored the inks, let them dry, then stamped the big sentiment with Memento Luxe Black and clear embossed it. I then trimmed down the water color panel, layered it onto black, then put it on a white base.

In an attempt to make it look more like FIRE, I covered the background with clear Wink of Stella.
