Hero Arts Flickr Scramble 100

For the first time in a very long time I was on the ball enough to play the Hero Arts Flickr Scramble, and it's #100! What a milestone!

Here's my card, then I'll explain:

The challenge was to use our favorite Hero Arts image AND our favorite Hero Arts sentiment set.

I started with the Hero Arts Happy Birthday set, and I was going to use the hot air balloon, but instead I opted for the one you see here. I was going to paper piece, and this one involved less fussy cutting.

Papers are from the Basic Grey Aurora 6x6 pack. After I'd stamped and cut out the balloons, I stamped the sentiment from my favorite Hero Arts Big Hugs set. Love those fonts! Once I was sure it was stamped mostly straight, I glued on the pieced balloons.

I was following the no-longer-current Retro Sketches sketch:

so now I needed something for the center panel. I went into more-is-more mode and selected my favorite Hero Arts background stamp: Tiny Flags. I stamped it in Soft Pool, then again in Pale Tomato.

Where the sketch has a tab, I used a small banner in the same paper as one of the balloons. I added some Neat & Tangled sequins, and called it done.

I had to trim the card a little to fit the background panel, but only about 3/8".

This was a great challenge, and I used some old favorites. So fun!

ABNH: Favorite of 2014

Hi there! I'm over at A Blog Named Hero today, sharing my favorite 2014 post from a fellow DT member.

You may not know this about me, but when I grow up, I'd like to possess just a fraction of the talent that some of these ladies have in their little fingers. Seriously.

I chose this post by Christine Drogt as my favorite, mostly because it totally rocks, but also because I can't use this stamp to make anything that ends up blog-worthy. Self-challenges are good, right?

Here's my card:

and some of the shiny:

Why not pop over to A Blog Named Hero and check it out? :) My fellow DT gals will be sharing their favorites all month long!

ABNH: September Sketch

I'm over at A Blog Named Hero today with my monthly sketch post. Here's one of the cards I made:

We're collaborating with Winnie & Walter this month:

so I used stamps from them and Hero Arts here.

I've been liking Kraft + Navy + White/Cream lately, and this one just kindof came together. The ribbon was some I got from SU many, many years ago, and I had to open it to use it! I cut slits in the Kraft layer to feed the ribbon through. (through which to feed the ribbon)

I used the Winnie & Walter Big Bang Confetti set to stamp the tan outlines on the Kraft panel, then used one of the solid diamonds to fill in some of the outlines with navy ink. There was also a teeny tiny circle stamp in the set, so I used that to add a few non-diamonds to the background.

Once I was done stamping, I wove the ribbon through the slits I'd cut, then layered that onto a navy panel. Then I realized I needed the ribbon ends to go further up (and down) on the card front, so I made another panel from the Eggshell and wrapped the ribbon around that. It's not even all that heavy, amazingly.

Why not pop over to A Blog Named Hero and see what else I've cooked up with this sketch. :)

Happy Birthday Bird

I visited a crafty friend last week to help her get started reloading her new craft room. It was fun! By mid-day on Day 2, we decided to stop loading it up, and instead try to craft and break it in. This would give her a chance to see if where we'd put things so far was working out for her, and give her a chance to move things before we put the rest of the "not used so much" stuff away.

During this crafty test-drive, I made this:

When you're at a friend's house, you use her stuff, right? :) So I broke out this stamp set from Hero Arts (linked below) and one of the new Lifestyle Crafts embossing folders I'd brought with me. I embossed the balloon on white card stock with white embossing powder, used Distress ink to color it, then I cut it out and put foam tape on the back. For the bird, I stamped him in Memento black and distressed him with the same inks, then cut him out, too. Since I'd distressed over his eyeballs, I stamped them again on a scrap, cut them out, then stuck them on. I used Copics to color his hat.

After I trimmed the white layer to fit on the red card base, I stuck everything down, then spent about an hour tying the teal thread to the balloon and his wing. I added some dots of Glossy Accents so it didn't go anywhere.

This card will go to my brother, whose birthday was Sunday. I've already told him it will be late. BAD sister!!! :(  But it will be mailed!
