Splotchy Happy Birthday

As I continue in my quest to make a dent in my UFO pile, I came across pieces of what used to be an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of Duct Tape. Yes, these are now offered in sheets to entice naive crafters into thinking they NEED them, so guess what? I bought one sheet. Just one!

I spent a lot of time trying to justify this purchase, and to date all I have are smaller pieces of the sheet clogging my UFO collection.

Then I saw the new Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge, to be inspired by this:

so I made this with one of the tiny pieces of the Duct Tape sheet:

I followed the current Deconstructed Sketch challenge:

To make the stripes on the background, I spritzed some homemade orange Gelato spray through a stencil onto a piece of white card stock. That came out too wet, so I flipped the stencil over and put it onto another piece of white card stock (using what was left on the stencil) and got some lighter, less-runny stripes that I liked better.

I stapled a piece of SU Rich Razzleberry grosgrain ribbon to the edge of the splotchy piece, then mounted it onto the striped layer. I stuck the sentiment (also left over from something else) across the front, then cut two small banner ends and stuck them down under the splotchy piece. Hopefully that made sense, and hopefully it looks like a banner.

I have a few pieces of this Duct Tape sheet left, so if anyone wants them, I'd be happy to see them leave.

Thanks for stopping by!

Stuff I used: a tiny piece of a sheet of Duct Tape, SU Rich Razzleberry grosgrain ribbon, mystery sentiment, and the following:

  1. Ha! Don't you love those things we buy and then have to force ourselves to use :) I love the splatters and the stencil stamping looks super cool!
