SOS #219: Outta This World

Happy Tuesday. It's time for a new challenge over at Shopping Our Stash. This week's theme is Outta This World, and we'd like you to use aliens on your project. If you don't have any specific alien-themed stuff, most monstahs would work here. An alternate challenge for those alien-free crafters: something celestial - moon, stars, planets, etc.

I made two cards for this challenge, totally different from each other, like from different planets. *ahem* Here's the first one:

Several years ago I had a weak moment and bought the Taylored Expressions Love Monsters set. It is in larger packaging than the rest of my stamps, so it isn't stored in the main semi-organized section, and I keep forgetting about it. But I knew I had it somewhere, and I finally found it. I still really like it. :)

These two guys are too cute. That's one stamp, so I didn't even need to get fancy. I masked the little guys (eyes and all) and blended in some Tumbled Glass distress ink behind them.

I colored the bods with Prismacolor pencils and blended with Gamsol. It's nice to pull out older, unloved products now and then.

After I mounted and layered everything, I put clear Wink of Stella on their eyes, so they're quite sparkly.

Here's my second card, then I'll explain:

This background was the result of me playing with my powdered inks a week or so ago. I already had six of the Color Burst powders, and I'd sworn off any more. Then someone showed the Brusho Black in action, and I got just the black; no other colors of Brusho.

See the center of that panel? All those colors? That's the black. Yep, truth. You see, black is made up of all the other colors, so it has all the other colors in it. If you mist the powder lightly and don't mess with it, you get all the colors. If you add more water, or schmear it with a brush, it turns black. I saw many possibilities with this, which is why I caved.

The next day, after the black part was dried, I decided to add some Color Burst blue around the edges.  I thought it could pass for the night sky. Then it landed in my UFO pile. Night sky? Perfect for aliens, so it got used here.

I have a second, much older monstah set from MFT called Monsters, Ink, and I have that irreverent sentiment from Viva Las Vegas Stamps. I thought the spaceship in the MFT set would be perfect with the sentiment. You know, space ship flies away and leaves a poor, human behind with a probe of some kind, somewhere on or in their body.

I stamped the tiny ship with Memento Luxe black ink onto a remnant of shiny silver card stock and clear-embossed it, then fussy-cut it and stuck it to the card front.

Wait, you mean that's not a space ship? It's another monstah? Well, guess what?! It's a space ship now!!!!  I stamped the image onto the colored panel before I stuck it down. That kept me from having to fussy-cut the legs ... er, lunar landing pads. I colored them in with a silver gelly pen. I bought those gelly pen packs about 10-12 years ago, and they will last me my whole life at this rate.

Those tiny stars on the background are ancient A Muse Twinkle Stars.

So, got aliens? Monstahs? Celestial objects? Why not play along, and link up over at SOS? We'd love to see you there.

Stuff I used: SU blue card stock, all-over-stick Post-it notes, MFT Monsters Ink stamp set, Viva Las Vegas sentiment, A Muse Twinkle Stars stickers, misc silver card stock, vat of clear embossing powder, and the following:

  1. wait seriously, that's not a space ship??? ok, yeah, it does have a *tail* i spose... i dunno, i'm still seeing a spaceship! and i LOVE the night sky! and i NEEEEEEEED the black brusho! (despite the fact that me having 2tsp of highly concentrated pigment powder in a little cup that can totally be knocked over ALL AT ONCE fills everyone who knows me --and/or is married to me-- with dread. except maybe the stanley steemer guy, who's all for it. :)

  4. Awwww, such an adorable aliens card. And now...
Stop it! I don't want to cave and buy the powdered fun! Even though I know I would love playing with it!
New paragraph. I am in awe of your night sky! I'm totally happy to accept your alien as a spaceship, and the sentiment is the best. :)

  5. I have a VLVS alien stamp.... yep or I think I still do. Aliens hitchhiking to Roswell. I'm not sure I can fit it this week (I already scheduled this week as I thought I'd be a lot sicker since I'm not allowed to medicate my allergies at all--and normally my train of thought is keep taking allergy pills until your allergies quit or your hair starts talking to you and if you hair isn't telling you to kill, take one more). Anyway... where was I? What planet? The besties card was cool but I think "beasties" might be a better greeting for that. The anal probe card is the BOMB though. Love you brusho/faux brush background!

  6. I super LOVE the be sties card! Cutest aliens ever. And the background on the second card is super cool…and that does look like a space ship to me more than an alien…though I guess that thing on the back is supposed to be a tail…I like it as a spaceship :)

  7. Tail?? I thought that was the probe??? LOL

  8. Both of these cards are equally fantastic! Love those cute aliens on the first - way to go masking the eyeballs. What craziness, I mean, dedication. That background of the second looks amazing, and that sentiment is perfection. And now I'm itching to try some of that Brusho stuff. Between you and Lindsey, you're both major enablers for me! LOL!
