Well, La De Da

I'm playing along with this week's Stampotique challenge #137: create a textured background that's your "signature" technique. Well, I don't have a signature technique, because I'm not all big on techniques and playing with mixed media stuff, but I do like playing with embossing paste, so I chose to do that.

Here's my card, then I'll explain:

This card is all Libby's fault, since she made me need these stamps. I love them! My background technique is using embossing paste with a piece of Magic Mesh as the template (remember that stuff?). Here's the shiny:

I put Pearlescent Embossing Paste over the mesh after taping down the mesh over my card stock:

It actually runs the length of the card, but I covered up most of the center portion with that sassy gal, so it only shows at the top and bottom. BUT IT IS THERE!

I also went wild and put black glaze pen at the tops and the toes of her boots, but you can't really tell here:

You'll just have to believe me.

Thanks for stopping by!

Products used: Stampotique La De Frickin' Da and Baby Cakes; older-than-dirt Magic Mesh; black Sharpie; Slice spatula, foam adhesive like The Precious, which I'll get when my misc collection runs out; and the following:

  1. Leslie, this card is just priceless! I can see the background embossing as well as the layers of papers--especially those patterned papers! All that counts as background texture! I don't (yet) have Baby Cakes, but she's definitely on my list. I am so glad that you participated in the Stampotique Designers' "texture" challenge this week! I wouldn't have wanted to miss this card!

  2. That's too cute! Great idea to use the mesh with the embossing paste, too.

  3. What a fun and fabulous card.

So smart to repurpose old-as-dirt Magic Mesh to use with paste to create a background texture!

I know this would look so much cooler irl where you could see the pearlescence.

I love and can't craft without my Glaze pens, so I'm glad you used one!

Thanks for playing along with us at Stampotique Designers Challenges. Hope to see you again!

  4. Lovely background using the mesh as a stencil for your paste, looks really effective. Love a Glaze Pen and the quote is just hilarious, goes well with Baby Cakes :-) x
