An SU-Only Day, And A Winner!!!!

First, we have a winner! I will admit some of the pleas were pretty sad, and Merry in NJ had me laughing out loud (did you really throw away your oven racks?!?!?), but our winner is KathyH! Kathy - please email me at lqhanna@gmail.com and I'll get your goodies out to you this week! Thanks for playing, everyone!

Now on to today's topics...Remember those chipboard ornaments I made last weekend, and then put away unfinished? Well, a co-worker and fellow crafter suggested I glitter them up, add some ribbons, and sell them at my Holiday Shows as "Decorators". They can be used for ornaments or to add to wrapped packages as a little something extra. I spent most of the day working on that, but I have no photos of the effort, so you will just have to believe me. It is Glitter Central in here, though. ;-) And I used up four spools of miscellaneous ribbon from the stash, too! (That is the only non-SU stuff I touched today.)

After I finished the 'decorators', I decided to work on a few things I had planned for next weekend's workshops, but I am not sure I succeeded. This first card is cased from this one I saw on SCS. I do not have the Pink Pirouette ribbon she used, and I wanted to use the striped ribbon from the SU Alpine Ribbon Originals somehow, though it has no pink in it, but it does have red and green. So I tried this:

Recipe (all Stampin' Up!): Stamps - Tree For All Seasons, Warm Words; Paper - Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red, Very Vanilla, Bella Rose DS paper; Ink - Chocolate Chip; Other - Top Note Die, Alpine Ribbon Originals, Dazzling Diamonds, 2-way glue pen, Old Olive marker, Dimensionals.

I forgot to color in the tree, but what do you think? I've seen red used with pink and some people can pull it off. My other option is to leave out the red layer and use only pink like the original one I CASEd, and I can use pink grosgrain ribbon instead. I may revisit this one later in the week.

Then I rummaged through my very large collection of unopened Designer papers and pulled out a sheet from the Manchester pack. I got it because it has 'manly' patterns, and no flowers. I used this one because I love the Baja Breeze and also I think Creamy Caramel is a color I ignore a lot; I tend to go to Kraft more than Caramel.

Recipe (all Stampin' Up!): Stamps - Only Ovals, Paper - Creamy Caramel, Baja Breeze, Very Vanilla, Machester DS paper; Ink - Baja Breeze; Other - Ruby Red marker, Wide Oval punch, Natural Hemp twine, Dimensionals.

I used the same diagonal cut I did on my Peas On Earth card, and settled on SU's Hemp Twine, due to lack of any SU ribbon on hand that I thought would work.
This is the same piece of paper, using both sides. I actually had to cut two pieces and swap out the halves. I opened and mounted (!) my Only Ovals set and inked one of the images in Baja Breeze. I used a cotton swab to wipe off the ink on the flowers and colored them with a Ruby Red marker, then stamped it on Very Vanilla.

I have not figured out how to use the Wide Oval punch with this stamp set, as the punch is only as large as the oval shape on this image, and it cuts off the ribbon banner that runs across the image. I need to work on that. I punched two more Wide Ovals out of Creamy Caramel, then stuck them together and used Dimensionals to pop the sentiment up over the twine.

I tried the same thing with a different sentiment and also turned the card horizontally.

I doodled on the oval edge with the Caramel marker. I kinda like them! I do not think I have enough of this paper to go around for a workshop, but I'll wait and see how many people register, then I'll decide what to do.

Well, I am off to play some more, and work my way through the stuff I have out on the tables; I hope to make a dent, thus minimizing the Clean Sweep later this week. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Yes, I did throw the oven racks away -- they were covered in a lovely fuzzy green mold. There was no way I was gonna clean that. Not touching it or cleaning it or even looking at it. Ick. Of course that might have happened because I moved into my apartment in April 2007 and finally decided I wanted to use the oven and cleaned it in September 2008 ... But Home Depot came to the rescue last week and delivered to my door two shiny brand-new oven racks that exactly fit my oven! This weekend my BF and I made bread (unfortunately the bottoms burned but I think the oven is not calibrated right). Every day's a d**n adventure...

I do like red and pink together. I think the image keeps the card from looking too Valentine's Day-ish but you could certainly use that exact same palette and layout for Love Day.
